What is Social & Emotional Learning (SEL)?
There’s no doubt that social & emotional learning (SEL) is one of the most talked-about topics in education right now. SEL is the foundation for academics and success beyond the classroom. And, Moshi is happy to partner with educators all over the world to easily and seamlessly integrate SEL into the daily life of the classroom. Below is a reference guide to SEL in Education that you can use as you plan for SEL and share with families and other members of the community.
SEL competencies develop over time. There is a developmental progression from birth through adulthood where skills, knowledge, and attitudes are learned. As we grow, we are cognitively and emotionally able to adapt and apply this learning. The important thing to remember is that although the development of certain skills develops in specific age ranges, children are different from each other, as are their experiences.
There are some concrete things to listen for and look for to know that SEL exists in schools. Our beliefs and attitudes about learning drive our decisions as educators. And, the environment that we purposefully create is one that teaches, models, and reinforces SEL all day, every day.
